HENRICO, VA—The Henrico County Public School System has postponed a safety and security forum that was set to take place Thursday.

The meeting was postponed due to possible inclement weather Thursday evening. School officials had planned to meet with Henrico County Police to discuss current school safety procedures and policies.

The meeting comes in response to calls, emails and visits from concerned parents in response to the Connecticut school shooting December 14.

It is unclear when the meeting will be held, but school officials planned to meet with parents to discuss current plans and procedures. The school will encourage parents and members of the community to offer their suggestions for new policies, the school said.

"This is a good opportunity to bring everyone together to share concerns and possible some new ideas on how to keep the students and staff safe," Henrico County Schools spokesman Andy Jenks said about the meeting.

Just a week ago, two students were detained after a gun was found on Highland Springs High School's campus. A security guard found the gun near a dumpster in the school's parking lot. No one was injured in the incident.
