Richmond, VA—In a school board meeting Tuesday night, Richmond Public Schools Superintendent Yvonne W. Brandon proposed eliminating 65 teaching positions, to close a budget gap of over $11 million.

School officials hope to avoid cutting the teaching positions by consolidating services within the city.

Parents and community members will have the chance to air their opinions on this issue, as school leasers will ask for input at town hall meeting over the next few weeks.

Last year, Richmond schools faced a $24 million budget gap.

Hanover County Schools are also facing a budget gap of over $5 million. Chesterfield County schools are saddled with a budget gap, and will not be forced to make cuts.
