Wise County, Va – A lockdown at UVA-Wise prompted by a student's report of a gunman on campus has been lifted after State Police say the student admitted it was a hoax.
The university was put on lockdown just after 9 p.m. Wednesday after a student called 911 to report he has seen a man on campus armed with a gun, Virginia State Police said.
A building-by-building search of the campus was immediately conducted by authorities.
The student who made the report was interviewed by authorities and admitted the call had been a hoax, State Police said.
The lockdown was lifted shortly after. UVA-Wise Police, Town of Wise Police, Wise County Sheriff's Office, Town of Pound Police and Virginia State Police all responded to the university during the indecent.
The students name has not been released. It is unclear if any charges have been filed.
