HENRICO, VA—No one was injured when a fire broke out at a recycling center in Henrico County on Friday morning.
The fire broke out at a commercial warehouse in the 4200 block of Carolina Avenue near Richmond International Raceway just before 7 a.m. Friday.
An employee at the center saw smoke and discovered machinery inside the building on fire. The employee pulled the fire alarm and then attempted to extinguish the fire, but was unable to do so and then left the building, fire officials said.
When fire crews arrived on scene, they found heavy smoke coming from the roof.
Due to the cold temperatures, it took crews extra time to ventilate the approximately 40,000 square foot structure.
