NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - The USS Cole is set to return to Virginia following a nine-month deployment.
Navy officials say the guided-missile destroyer is scheduled to return to its homeport of Naval Station Norfolk on Saturday.
Media outlets report that while deployed, the Cole participated in its first ballistic missile defense operations mission.
Before its April 2012 deployment to the Mediterranean Sea, it hadn't deployed since September 2010.
The ship is commanded by Cmdr. Peter K. Nilsen and has a crew of about 300.
