RICHMOND, VA—A 15-story high rise with a reported investment of more that $110 million could be coming to downtown Richmond.

Clayco, a national development and building firm, announced Wednesday a proposal to build Gateway Plaza, a new 15-story office building in downtown Richmond.

The proposed building would be located between 8th and 9th Streets and Canal Street.

Initial plans call for the building to have 261,000 square feet of office space, more than 10,000 square feet of first-floor retail space and 520 parking spaces.

The proposed building is expected to receive Gold certification based on Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) criteria.

According to a press release from the builder, economic studies show that Gateway Plaza will offer several significant benefits, including:

• 812 construction jobs, paying a total of more than $50.7 million in wages.
• 1,653 jobs, including more than 630 at McGuireWoods.
• Projected generation of new cumulative tax revenues of more than $117 million over the next 30 years.
