RICHMOND, VA—Two
people were robbed at gunpoint on VCU's Monroe Park
campus just before midnight Wednesday.
It happened at the intersection of Hancock and Marshall Streets at
approximately 11:39 p.m. Wednesday.
Police say two people were walking on Marshall Street when three men approached
them.
One of the three men displayed a silver handgun and demanded the victims get
on the ground, police said.
The suspects are then accused of pushing the victims to the ground before
robbing them and fleeing on foot.
Richmond Police and VCU Police were at the scene for several hours. Police
have located and charged two men in the case. Their names have not been released at this
time.
Police are reminding people what to do if they find themselves in a similar
situation.
-In the event of an incident, the information you
provide police will help them identify the suspect(s). Focus on his or
her physical characteristics, i.e. clothing description, height and weight, and
last known direction of travel.
-Never try to apprehend the criminal yourself.
-When out walking, trust your instincts about a
person or situation and choose safety over courtesy.
-If you need help, look for an Emergency
Reporting Telephone. You automatically will be connected to University Police.
-Be aware of your surroundings. Do not let a cell
phone conversation or listening to music distract you when crossing the street
or in another situation that calls for your full attention.
- Avoid isolated areas and walking alone at night.
Consider use of the Ram Safe 828-7233(828-SAFE) during the hours of 5pm-8am.
