CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - The University of Virginia is preparing to launch a program aimed at increasing the number of female faculty members in science and social science fields.
The program is funded by a $3 million, five-year grant from the National Science Foundation's ADVANCE Institutional Transformation program. It will be launched Thursday.
U.Va. vice provost Gertrude Fraser says the program's success depends on the university engaging as many people as possible in identifying and addressing what she calls "subtle sources of bias."
