Farmville, VA—A former Farmville police officer has been charged with four counts of attempted capital murder, after police say he shot at county deputies and a State Trooper Saturday evening.

T.J. Long of Prince Edward County shot at officers as they approached him on farmland along Route 15, say Virginia State Police.  The incident occurred in the Abilene area of Prince Edward County; at about 5:20 p.m., Long surrendered to police.

Long has also been linked to an earlier house fire on Route 40, between Keysville and Charlotte Court House at about 3:30 p.m. the same day. Long has been named as a suspect in this arson investigation.

A domestic incident sparked the shooting and fire, says Captain Howard Hobgood of the Charlotte Sheriff's Office.

Long is currently being held at Peidmont Regional Jail. Stay with 8News for updates.
