Chesterfield,
VA—A local church teamed with
Chesterfield County Police in an effort to bring comfort to children who have
been through a traumatizing experience.
"Teddy Bear Sunday" began 13 years ago at the Unity Christ
Church of Bon Air. Chesterfield County Police joined the cause four years ago.
"The guys on the street who run into a situation where
there's a child that's been through a traumatic experience…it's a great tool
that we can get to them, to kind of calm their nerves," says Cpl. Scott Gordon.
On Sunday, bears filled the church, from the kitchen to the
front door. It's part of the "Random Acts of Kindness Week," which is all about
making humble gestures towards strangers.
Hopefully, the bears will make a positive impact in a child's
life, and lessen the impact of traumatic experiences.
Some of the bears will also be given to senior citizens in
stressful situation, according to the church.
