ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - Two Virginia men have been charged with trying to smuggle millions of dollars' worth of marijuana from Mexico into Prince William County.
Forty-eight-year-old Francisco Vargas-Aquino of Manassas was arrested Tuesday and 47-year-old Ricardo Valdez of Gainesville was arrested Wednesday. Both are being held pending a detention hearing in federal court in Alexandria.
Court records show that in the last 18 months, the two tried to smuggle three tractor-trailers full of marijuana into the country. The drugs were concealed in tubs of frozen fruit pulp and were seized by customs officers.
U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Neil MacBride said the marijuana that was intercepted had a street value of tens of millions of dollars.
