8News Anchor Amy Lacey talks with a witness who was startled by the loud, low-flying helicopters...hear from her tonight on 8News at 5:30.
Richmond, VA--After dozens of central Virginia citizens contacted 8News about loud helicopters flying low over thier homes Wednesday evening, we investigated. Quantico Public Affairs told us that the Marines were assisting with helicopter training over the area.
While we were not given detail about the nature of the training, nor the types of aircraft flying over Central Virginia, Quantico Public Affairs officials did confirm two CH53 Echo Super Stallion helicopters from the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in North Carolina were training in the Fredericksburg region with Marines from The Basic School at Quantico, and returned to North Carolina Wednesday night.
Another helicopter training is scheduled for Thursday night, to be completed in the region around Quantico. Citizens can expect to see the helicopters and hear the same noises as they did on Wednesday.
