RICHMOND, VA—A John Marshall High School student is in custody after police say the student, who was armed with a loaded gun, was involved in an altercation at the school early Friday morning.
Richmond Police responded to the school at 6:50 a.m. Friday after two students got into an altercation and one of the students, who had dropped a gun, fled the scene.
Danzall Seward, 18, was taken into custody without incident in the area of the nearby YMCA. He is charged with felony possession of a weapon on school property and posession of a stolen weapon. He is facing other misdemeanor charges as well.
Police said the weapon was recovered from a nearby dumpster.
No one was injured and no shots were fired, according to Richmond Police. The school was placed on a Code Red lockdown, which was lifted after the situation was under control.
School officials said it's unclear if Seward went through school metal detectors or had bypassed the machines by entering a back door.
Police say there is no additional danger to students or public.
A 16-year-old student was also charged in the incident.
The school is located at 4225 Old Brook Road, Richmond.
