FREDERICKSBURG, VA—The manhunt continues for a Fredericksburg man named as a person of interest in the slayings of an elderly couple in Fauquier County.

John Wesley Jeffries, 60, of Fredericksburg, has been on the run since Sunday. Police say is believed to be armed and dangerous.

Jeffries was named a person of interest after the bodies of 80-year-old Nelson Slack and his 74-year-old wife, Ethel, were found early Sunday in their home on Bunker Hill Road.

Police found new evidence, a piece of clothing near the crime scene, Tuesday. The slain couple's vehicle was found Sunday afternoon on Lafayette Boulevard.

"We're gonna operate under the assumption he's still in the area, but we don't know that for a fact," said Capt. Jeff Pearce with the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office.

"Until we have him in custody, we will follow every lead as far as it takes us," said Capt. Pearce.

Jeffries is also wanted in Spotsylvania County on malicious wounding and other charges stemming from an incident in Spotsylvania.

Jeffries is listed as a violent offender on the Virginia Sex Offender Registry. If you see Jeffries, you're asked to call 911 immediately.
