Pediatrics Group Revises Ear Infection Treatment Guidelines

Posted: Updated:

(CNN) The American Academy of Pediatricians is revising its guidelines on treating childhood ear infections.

The group is now recommending parents monitor kids for at least three days before going to the doctor.

Basically it's simply a wait-and-see approach, watching to see if the infection goes away on its own.

The problem?

The overuse of antibiotics is creating a medicine-resistant strain of bacteria.

But if your child has a serious ear infection with symptoms like high fever and significant pain, you probably need a doctor.
