King William County, VA—The owner of a pit bull who attacked and injured two children in King William on Sunday is now facing charges.

Ollie M. Carroll, Jr. has been charged with allowing a dog to run at large and nuisance dog. The King William Sheriff's Office is requesting to have the dog declared a dangerous or vicious dog.

The 8-year-old girl suffered severe injuries to the neck and had her thumb bitten off when a pit bull from a nearby home chased and attacked her, according to King William County Sheriff's Department.

A 9-year-old boy was treated and released for injuries to the chest, according to authorities.

The attack happened around 1:15 p.m. on Corann Drive in the Oak Springs Subdivision of King William County on Sunday, March 3.

Both children were taken to VCU Medical Center where the eight-year-old girl underwent surgery Sunday and is in serious condition. It is unclear if the girl's thumb was able to be reattached.

The boy was treated and released.

The attack happened when the two children were playing outside. Authorities say a pit bull from a nearby home chased the children to the home of another neighbor and then attacked them.

The dog has been seized by Animal Control Deputies pending further investigation. Deputy Sheriff Mart Koontz confirmed this is the first incident reported in connection to the dog.

No charges have been filed at this time.
