RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The National Weather Service says a winter storm is winding down in Virginia, leaving 20 inches in some locations and winds gusting to 40 mph.
The weather service said Wednesday the storm dumped 20 inches of snow in Augusta and Warren counties, 18 inches in Page County, 10 inches in Albemarle, a foot in Allegany and several inches or more in other locations.
More than 215,000 utility customers remain without power. Gov. Bob McDonnell said that number is likely to increase because of the heavy snow and high winds.
Utility companies said they can't say when the power will be restored until they assess the damage.
