Hopewell, VA—An ammonia leak at the Honeywell plant in Hopewell set off alarms Monday afternoon; as part of the facility's established safety procedure, employees were held in a secure area for several hours.
At approximately 4:30 p.m., the plant's safety systems detected an ammonia leak in a production area which is currently undergoing maintenance work. Hopewell Honeywell spokesperson Peter Dalpe said the leak was contained to a small area of the facility, and there are no indications that the leak had an impact outside the plant. The Honeywell Emergency Brigade was dispatched in this incident.
"The plant will be working to determine the cause of the leak and the amount released," Dalpe said in a statement to 8News.
