School Bus Accident In King & Queen County

KING & QUEEN CO. – A Tappahannock woman has been charged after causing a three-vehicle crash involving a King and Queen County school bus Wednesday (March 13, 2013). At 3:55 p.m., Master Trooper D.W. Wyatt was called to the scene of the crash in the eastbound lanes of Route 360 approximately a half mile east of Route 631 in King and Queen County.

With its warning lights and signage activated, the school bus was stopped in the right eastbound lane of Route 360. A 1993 Infiniti was legally stopped in the left eastbound lane when an eastbound 1997 Nissan Altima came up behind and failed to stop in time. The Nissan struck the Infiniti and then ran off into the median. Meanwhile, the Infiniti struck the side of the school bus and spun around in the roadway.

The driver of the bus, Hattie M. Gaston, 34, of Aylett, and the 12 students on board the bus all suffered minor injuries. All 13 were transported to Riverside Tappahannock Hospital, where they were treated and released later Wednesday evening.

The driver of the Infiniti, Maxcine Campbell, 42, of Montross, was also transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of Nissan, Helen D. Roane, 49, of Tappahannock, was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Roane has been charged with reckless driving.
