SPOTSYLVANIA, VA—Police captured a man they say robbed a person in a gas station parking lot when the suspect's getaway car ran out of gas.
Johnny Ray Brooks, 28, and Jon Dean Kimmel, 37, were arrested and charged Friday after police say the pair's getaway car ran out off gas while fleeing a robbery.
Officers with the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office responded to the Wawa store located at 4625 Harrison Road for a report of a robbery at approximately 12:21 a.m. Friday.
Police say Brooks approached his 29-year-old male victim at Mary Washington hospital and asked for a ride to Spotsylvania County.
The victim offered to take the suspect to the Wawa store located at the intersection of Jefferson Davis Hwy and Harrison Road.
Once at the gas station, the suspect assaulted and robbed the victim and then jumped into the passenger's seat of a waiting vehicle and fled the scene.
Police said the victim followed the suspects and called 911, informing officers of the vehicle's description and location.
The victim lost sight of the vehicle, but police say officers later spotted the vehicle when it ran out of gas in the area of Plank Road and River Road.
Johnny Ray Brooks, 28, has been charged with strong arm robbery and obtaining goods by false pretense. Jon Dean Kimmel, 37, has been charged with conspiracy to commit strong arm robbery.
Brooks and Kimmel are being held without bound at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
