RICHMOND, VA—Police have a new tool they're hoping will drive home the message about the dangers and cost of drinking and driving.
The "Win or Lose Cruiser" is a patrol car designed to serve as a mobile billboard. It looks like a hybrid between a taxi cab and a police cruiser.
Officers are hoping the car will illustrate the fact that a cab ride will cost around $20, but a DUI could cost around $10,000 in fines, legal fees and insurance hikes.
Arrests for drunk driving have significantly increased near the VCU campus—arrests are up some 70 percent.
Friday, ahead of St. Patrick's Day, police unveiled a mobile billboard they're hoping will make people think twice about getting behind the wheel.
The car's unveiling comes a year after VCU student Carolina Perez was killed by a drunk driver.
