AMELIA, VA—An Amelia County school is closed Monday after suffered damage during Saturday evening's storm.
Amelia Academy suffered damage to its roof during the storm, and inspectors are currently at the school examining the structure.
Metal from the building's roof was strewn across the campus, on the school's baseball and softball fields. The school says community members are working to remove the debris.
The building impacted housed the school's gym, stage and preschool; however, no classrooms were in that building. The school is working to save what was inside the building, as it was damaged with rain water.
A celebration marking the school's athletic team's championships had to be postponed due to the damage. A school open house was also impacted.
The school had just celebrated 50 years in the building.
The school does have insurance, but is asking for donations as many of their items may have been ruined due to the water.
If you'd like to donate, contact Amelia Academy at (804) 561-2270.
No one was injured in the incident.
