RICHMOND, VA—Preparations for this weekend's Church Hill Irish Festival are underway, and with the recent violence and arrests at Shamrock the Block, many want to know if the proper security measures are in place to protect festivalgoers.
Multiple people were arrested at Saturday's Shamrock the Block. A viral video of an altercation between a festivalgoer and Richmond Police had some asking if police went too far.
The Church Hill Irish Festival is a well known family event that local business owners and organizers want to see start and end on a good note.
"We have to monitor the alcohol sales; we do that. We monitor the gates, we have police officers at each gate; this is a family event," said Irish Festival Organizer Stokes McCune.
The Church Hill Irish Festival will be held Saturday, March 23 & Sunday, March 24. The event stretches four city blocks and normally attracts some 20,000 people.
