Posted: Updated:

Amelia, VA—A fatal crash claimed a teen's life Saturday night on West Creek Road; another teen was injured, but survived the accident.

Virginia State Police say that shortly after 9:00 p.m. on March 23, Senior Trooper T.C. Smith responded to the scene; the driver of a 2000 Ford Mustang had lost control of the car and ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree.

The driver has been identified as 17-year-old Lucas M. Radford of Amelia. Radford was flown to VCU Medical Center for treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

A 15-year-old male passenger suffered serious, but non life-threatening injuries, and was also flown to VCU Medical Center. His condition is unknown at this time.

Neither the driver nor passenger were wearing safety belts at the time of the accident. Police say speed was a factor in the crash, but alcohol is not considered a factor.

The fatal incident remains under investigation. Stay with 8News for updates.
