VCU Community Warned After Mumps Case

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND, VA—Virginia Commonwealth University is warning its faculty and staff after the health department confirmed a case of mumps in the VCU community.

The university sent a letter to its faculty and staff alerting them the Richmond City Health Department had confirmed the case.

Just last week an outbreak of mumps was identified among students at the University of Richmond. That outbreak has since grown to 15 cases with an additional 38 suspected cases.

Symptoms include headache, fever and nausea. School officials are asking anyone who feels sick to contact the student heath center.

The virus can spread when someone coughs or sneezes.
