Hanover, VA—A man was sent to the hospital with injuries, after being hit by a Hanover Sheriff's Office vehicle Monday afternoon.
The crash took place near the intersection of South Washington Highway and Junction Drive in Ashland at about 1:30 p.m.
The victim, identified only as a 24-year-old man from Ashland, was transported to VCU Medical Center with serious, though non life-threatening injuries. The deputy involved in the crash sustained minor injuries.
Eyewitness reports indicate that the deputy, who was traveling in an unmarked 2006 For Crown Victoria, was driving south on South Washington Highway near the intersection of Junction Drive. The vehicle struck the pedestrian as he attempted to cross the street from the median.
All accounts say the deputy was proceeding through a green light with traffic when the crash occurred. The incident remains under investigation.
