Multiple Injuries In I-95 DUI Crash

Release from Virginia State Police:

A Colonial Heights resident was charged with Driving Under the Influence following a four vehicle crash on Interstate 95 southbound at the 71 mile marker in the City of Richmond.

Shortly before 2:30 a.m. this morning, Virginia State Police responded to the crash after the driver of a 2009 Hyundai Elantra was traveling southbound and was rear-ended by the driver of a 2005 Dodge Neon. After the impact, the Hyundai struck the jersey wall before being struck by a 2002 Mercedes and a 2013 Toyota Camry.

The driver and two passengers in the Dodge Neon suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. The driver and a passenger in the Hyundai suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Mercedes also suffered minor injuries. Everyone was transported by ambulance to VCU Medical Center.
The three occupants in the Toyota were not injured in the crash.

The driver of the Dodge Neon, Darrell Payne, Jr., 24, was charged with Driving Under the Influence.

Alcohol is considered a factor in the on-going investigation.
