Gas Fed Fire Brought Under Control Quickly

Posted: Updated:

HENRICO, Va- A gas fed fire causing major damage is brought under control quickly. At 9:25 AM Henrico County Division of Fire responded to a report of a house on fire. Additional information from the 911 center was people were still inside the house and the neighbors were attempting to get them out.

When the first units arrived at 2829 Dover Hunt Place they found a two story single family dwelling with heavy fire showing from the rear and driveway side of the house. Crews quickly confirmed that everyone was out of the structure. It was determined the fire had not extended into the house so an exterior attack was performed.

During the exterior attack it was discovered the fire was being fed by a gas leak from an outside gas meter. The wood fence had also ignited and was causing the fire to spread toward nearby houses. The bulk of the fire was knocked down within minutes and crews kept the fire from spreading to other properties.

The gas leak continued to be a challenge, causing gas to enter the house. Fire crews ventilated the structure and worked with city gas to get the main line cut off feeding the home. It took about twenty minutes to bring this situation under control without injuries to occupants or firefighters. The cause of the fire is being investigated and not known at this time. The occupants will be staying with family until repairs are made.
