Man Faces Felony Charges In Fatal Longwood University Shooting

Appomattox County, VA—A 52-year-old Pittsylvania County man has been arrested and charged in relation to a fatal shooting near Longwood University April 6.

Police say Darryl N. Elmore of Hurt, VA is being held without bond at the Piedmont Regional Jail in Farmville, Virginia on charges of voluntary manslaughter, reckless handling of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The charges stem from an April 6 shooting incident which left 46-year-old John J. Robles of Mechanicsville dead.

Police responded to a call for a shooting Satruday, April 6 at 7:45 p.m. at a trailer on a fenced-off construction site in Lancer Park. Lancer Park is a student housing complex near the main campus.

A firearm was recovered from the scene, and Robles body has been transported to the Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

The motive or circumstance leading to the shooting remain unclear; police are continuing their investigation.
