RICHMOND, VA—Richmond City drivers will have to kick it into gear the next time they parallel park, if they want to avoid hefty fines.
The Richmond City Council passed a new ordinance requiring driver's park their car no more than 18 inches from the curb when parallel parking.
It's all in an effort to keep parked cars out of traffic and make it easier on bicyclists.
The original proposal gave drivers a 12 inch limit, but the approved ordinance gives drivers 18 inches.
Drivers who exceed 18 inches may now be fined.
