PETERSBURG, VA—The driver police say failed to pullover and engaged officers in a police pursuit before crashing on Interstate 95 in Colonial Heights early Thursday morning has been charged.
Barracus A. Fuller, 29, 800 block of McKenzie Street in Petersburg, has been charged with felony eluding police, reckless driving, failure to maintain proper control, driving on a suspended license and making an unsafe lane change.
Virginia State Police attempted to stop Fuller just after 6:00 a.m. for a traffic violation on Interstate 95. Officers say Fuller failed to stop and fled the trooper.
After a two mile pursuit, Fuller's car attempted to change lanes and struck the chasing trooper's vehicle, authorities said.
The suspect's vehicle overturned. Both occupants were taken to the hospital for minor injuries. No troopers were injured.
State Police spokesperson Sgt. Thomas J. Molnar said that speeds during the pursuit were more than 60 miles per hour.
Interstate 95 reopened approximately one hour after the wreck.
Fuller is being held without bond at the City of Petersburg Jail pending his arraignment.
