2 Chesterfield Men Die In I-64 Wrong-Way Head-On Collision

NEW KENT, VA—Police have identified the two people killed in a wrong-way head-on collision on I-64 in New Kent County late Tuesday night.

James E. Fred, 54, of Chesterfield County, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-64 when he struck another vehicle head-on and died, police said.

The driver of the second vehicle, John J. Keesler, 47, of Chesterfield County, was also killed in the wreck.

It happened just after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the westbound lanes just past the Route 33 exit.

Polcie said the men, both of whom were wearing their seatbelts, died at the scene.

Interstate 64 westbound was closed for approximately five hours following the crash.
