Richmond, VA—Police used surveillance video to arrest and charge two men accused of stealing copper in Ginter Park and nearby neighborhoods.

On Tuesday, April 16, officers were alerted about a suspicious person near the Children's Hospital, located at 2924 Brook Road. A short time later, officers located and arrested two male suspects in connection to the copper thefts.

In the course of the arrests, police were able to recover stolen property.

25-year-old Ebon J. Fife of Henrico and 31-year-old Lamont A. Phillips of Montperlier were arrested and charged with larceny.

Sector Lieutenant Chris Gleason said the surveillance operation was successful.

"We saw an established pattern, planned the operation and put resources in place. We hope this covert operation's success will go a long way towards stopping these thefts in this area."

He also sent a message to would-be criminals:

"This is a reminder to those thinking of criminal activity. You may see officers in Outdoor Roll Calls, in vehicles, on bicycle or walking patrols – but you also might not notice us at all. That doesn't mean we're not there."
