Fan Residents Say More Lights Would Make Area Safer
RICHMOND, VA- Fan residents are complaining about the
amount of lighting in the Fan district, and after a recent up tick in crime, 8News asked city leaders what would be done to solve the problem.
Locals say that due to recent robberies,
walking home at night from local areas can be scary. Some say that
even though there are lights on the sidewalks sometimes they flicker on and off
or just do not work.
Ally Jacobi, a Fan resident, says, "It's
insane, walking down here and there's no lights."
Residents such as Charlie Diradour say that without
proper lighting there are areas and ally ways where robbers can just jump out.
The City told 8News that it has already implemented more lighting but there
is still a long way to go. The City of Richmond is planning to put
over $300,000 of their budget for the next five years towards
installing more lights in the Fan District.
