RICHMOND, VA—April is national STD awareness month, and the Richmond Health District is trying to call attention to the impact of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and promote STD testing.
The Richmond City Health District will offer free STD and HIV testing Thursday.
The Health District's Sexually Transmitted Infection team said it hopes the free testing will help prevent some of the approximately 19 million new STD infections that occur in the US every year.
At the testing event, patients will be able to be tested and get their results the same day. The event will also feature music and line dancing.
Thursday's free testing runs from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Southside Plaza Shopping Center, located just off Hull Street in Richmond.
The Richmond Health District STI Clinic offers testing on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays at it's 400 E. Cary Street location. Morning clinic registration is 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.; afternoon clinic registration is 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
