Chesterfield, VA--Crews battled a fire at the Aleris Rolled Products, Inc. recycling plant located at 1601 Reymet Road Wednesday night. Workers were evacuated from the five-story building; there were no injuries in this incident.
Aleris Rolled Products, Incorporated is a five-story recycling center in Chesterfield. The fire was located between the fourth and fifth floors.
Chesterfield Fire Lt. Jason Elmore said the blaze started as a furnace fire that is part of the recycling process. The fire spread within the insulation of walls and the floor, although it was not visible from outside the building.
At about 8:00 p.m., Chesterfield Fire crews staged away from the building which contains the furnace, due to the possibility that the five-story furnace tower was damaged by the flames and may collapse.
Crews continued to monitor the fire throughout Wednesday evening, although fire officials said there was not any immediate danger of it spreading beyond the plant.
