Henrico Mom Charged After 4-Year-Old Accidentally Shot

HENRICO, VA—Henrico County Police have charged a woman after her 4-year-old son was injured in an accidental shooting early Saturday morning.

The incident took place in the early morning hours of April 27 at a home in the 8700 block of Rolando Drive, near Weldon Drive.

Antonia O'Brien, 29, has been charged with two counts of abuse/neglect of child. Police say O'Brien was present at the time of the shooting.

The boy's father declined to speak with 8news, but the boy's mother says he wasn't home at the time of the shooting.

The child's grandmother, Patricia Horton, tells 8News the toddler was shot through the leg, but will recover. The boy was taken to VCU Medical Center, but has since been released.

Police are still investigating the incident but are calling it non-suspicious.
