SOUTH HILL, VA—Two men face charges of transporting moonshine following an investigation by state and local authorities.
Vernon Thomas, 76, of Chesterfield and Bernard Davis, 64, of Chase City were arrested by Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) agents in early April.
Officers seized 150 gallons of moonshine, $510, a truck and a cargo van. The arrests followed a three-month investigation.
Both men have been charged with illegally transporting alcoholic beverages and possession of untaxed distilled spirits. Each faces up to 12 months in jail and a fine of up to $2500.
The two men are accused of transporting untaxed moonshine across the Virginia state line.
Thomas was arrested on Interstate 85 at the intersection with U.S. Route 58 in South Hill. Davis was arrested on Route 58 in Boydton.
