RICHMOND, VA—A Richmond woman says a recent cab ride turned scary when her safety was compromised.
Alison Renahan told 8News she called a Napolean Taxicab after meeting friends, but she wasn't expecting company on her ride home.
"I was really scared; I was nervous," Alison Renahan told 8News about her recent cab ride.
"When the driver picked me up, he veered off course and picked up another passenger, even though I said I wasn't okay with that," said Renahan.
Renahan says she's used the company many times before, but that she was shocked at her most recent ride.
When the male passenger entered the cab, Renahan says there were times when his leg would touch hers.
"I was kind of upset, because I felt my safety had been compromised," Renahan said.
8News went to the Napolean Taxicab Company, which has cameras inside their cabs.
The company would not give 8News the video, because it's part of the investigation, but they did let us see the video. The video does show what appears to be, at times, the man and Renahan's legs touching.
"Things like this, they stem into somebody being uncomfortable," said Jonathan Trainum, the Napoleon Taxicab president.
The company has fired the cab driver, and the company president called Renahan.
"It should not have happened; we apologize," said Trainum. "More than anyone can understand, we are truly sorry."
Trainum tells 8News he used to be a cab driver, and he started his own company to combat issues like this. Trainum says he will make sure all of his drivers go through more training.
