Former Coast Guard Officer To Be Sentenced For Fraud

Posted: Updated:

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Federal prosecutors are asking that a former Coast Guard transportation officer be sentenced to more than eight years in prison for wire fraud taking bribes.

Nathan Allen Dunn, of Brookwood, Ala., is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Norfolk after pleading guilty in January.

Dunn was a transportation officer from October 2009 to November 2011 at the Surface Forces Logistics Center in Norfolk, where he was in charge of coordinating the shipment of large freight between Coast Guard bases. Prosecutors say Dunn conspired to award overpriced or fake shipment contracts to 12 companies owned by another man in exchange for bribery payments.

In court filings, prosecutors said the government lost at least $779,549 in the scheme and Dunn accepted bribes totaling about $230,000.
