A Chesterfield County teenager is charged after police say he accidentally shot a teenage girl Thursday.
According to a release from Chesterfield Police, the 13-year-old boy was showing a handgun off to other juveniles when the gun went off, hitting a 13-year-old girl in the leg.
The incident happened at just after 1 p.m. in the 3900 block of Windcry Drive.
The victim's injuries are not life-threatening. Police officials said the shooting appears to be accidental.
The male suspect is charged with reckless handling of a firearm, discharging a weapon inside a residence and possession of a firearm by a juvenile.
Police are continuing to investigate how the boy obtained the weapon. At this point, officials said it does not appear to belong to the parents of the suspect or the victim.
