SUSSEX COUNTY, VA—A Sussex County manhunt has ended after the suspect was found hiding under a bridge Wednesday.
Dorel Pickett, 33, was taken into custody without incident Wednesday afternoon, Sussex Police said.
According to Deputy Derrick McKenzie with the Sussex County Sheriff's Office, a manhunt for Pickett began Tuesday morning near the Stoney Creek exit on I-95 after he escaped police capture following a traffic stop.
McKenzie says at about 6 a.m. Tuesday, Pickett was stopped by police for speeding on I-95. Inside the car, officers found a large amount of drugs, according to McKenzie.
A passenger, by the name of William Walton, was taken into custody but Pickett ran from the vehicle and scaled a nearby fence, police said.
Deputies set up a perimeter on Galley Road in Sussex Co. at Route 301 on Tuesday and began searching for Pickett.
Although the area where Pickett was believed to be is a residential area, police did not evacuate anyone from their homes, but advised area residents to stay inside and not open their doors to anyone they don't know.
