CHESTERFIELD, VA—Virginia State Police are searching for a vehicle they say may have been involved in a shooting that injured a woman as she drove along a Chippenham Parkway off-ramp late Monday night.
According to State Police, a woman pulled into a local business on Belmont Road just after 11:30 p.m. Monday and called 911. State and Chesterfield Police responded to find a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
State Police said the shooting occurred on the ramp from southbound Chippenham to Belmont Road. The victim was the only one in the car at the time of shooting.
Police are looking for information on the suspect vehicle which was described as being a newer-model, white, full sized SUV. Police said after the shooting, the SUV continued up the exit ramp headed north on Belmont Road heading towards the City of Richmond.
No other details were provided. It remains unclear what lead up to the shooting or if the victim was targeted.
Police say they are continuing to determine if a relationship exists between the victim and possible suspects.
