RED, WHITE, AND BLUE SMOOTHIE
Place blueberries in a blender container; cover and blend at high speed until blueberries are pureed; sweeten blueberries to taste or leave blueberries unsweetened as desired. Pour pureed blueberries into a tall glass. Rinse blender container thoroughly and add strawberries; cover and blend at high speed until strawberries are pureed. Sweeten strawberries to taste or leave strawberries unsweetened as desired.
Top pureed blueberries in the glass with vanilla ice cream or yogurt. Pour pureed strawberries over the ice cream. Garnish with a sprig of mint, a whole strawberry, and a very small decorative flag. Preferably serve immediately. Or, if preparing in advance, may cover and refrigerate until ready to serve. Add garnish just before serving.
Four servings: Use 3 cups blueberries, 3 cups sliced strawberries, and 2 to 3 cups vanilla ice cream or unflavored yogurt. Follow directions for one serving, dividing ingredients evenly.
Variation: Top "smoothie" with a sprinkle of granola or other crunchy cereal or sugar cookie or vanilla wafer crumbs.
