HENRICO, VA—A Prince George County mother whose two children died after she allegedly
left them inside a hot car while she went to work has been charged with two
felony murder charges.
R. Downing, 22, of Prince George County, was indicted by a grand jury Monday, the Henrico
County's commonwealth's attorney Shannon Taylor confirmed.
charge carries a penalty of up to 40 years in prison.
In late May, police responded to the Bailey Ridge Apartment complex in
Prince George where they found Downing's 18-month-old son dead.
Downing's 2-month-old daughter was also found inside the apartment. The girl
was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, but she died just days later.
Henrico County Police say the investigation centers around an incident that
took place at a hotel in the 10600 block of Telegraph Road, near Brook Road.
Sources tell 8News that Downing left her two young children in a car while
she went to work.
Downing had been previously charged with two counts of felonious child
