Hopewell Double Shooting

Hopewell, Va – Early Saturday at 4:38 am, the Hopewell Police responded to the 1800 block of Freeman St. for a report of shot fired. Investigation revealed there was a large crowd in the 1800 block of Freeman St. who were engaged in a physical altercation. During the altercation shots were fired and two victims suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to John Randolph Medical for treatment.

Victim one Jonathan Jennings, 27 years old, of Prince George suffered a single gunshot wound to his right knee. Offender Anthony D. Paschal, age 26 of Hopewell suffered a single gunshot wound to his right thigh. Investigation revealed that Anthony Paschal who was already in the area heard a disturbance at the dead end of Freeman St. Anthony Paschal went to see what was going on. When Anthony Paschal approached the area he was confronted by an unknown black male who started pushing him. At this time Anthony Paschal pulled out a hand gun and started shooting into the crowed and one of the bullets struck victim one Jonathan Jennings in his right knee. It was also discovered during the investigation that another unknown suspect started shooting and Anthony Paschal was shot in the right thigh.

Warrants were obtained on Anthony Paschal for Aggravated Malicious Wounding, Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and shooting into an occupied dwelling. Anthony Paschal was treated and released from the hospital.

Detectives continue to investigate this matter and are requesting any person(s) who were in the area and may have witnessed or has any information to contact Lead Investigator Grimm or the Hopewell Police Department at 541-2222 or 541-2284.
