UPDATE: Following this report, 8News has learned that Lewis' dump truck was recovered. The vehicle was found in Prince George County. Lewis is overjoyed to have it back.
RICHMOND, VA—The owner of a trucking company is passing out flyers and offering a reward, hoping to recover a stolen dump truck.
Mary Lewis has been in the trucking business for 12 years and operates M & R Services, but says early Monday morning she discovered her main dump truck had been stolen.
"I was very upset; that's my business, that's how I make my money," said Mary Lewis, owner of M&R Services.
The truck was taken from a lot on Belt Boulevard, just down the street from a Richmond Police station.
"This was one of my best trucks," Lewis said. "It's how I make a living, just like someone else goes to work 40 hours a week or something—this is how I make money for my family."
Lewis says since the truck was locked and the keys were not inside, she believes it was taken by someone who knew what they were doing.
"It's probably someone who is familiar with the trucking business," Lewis explains. "You'd have to know how to drive it, so they probably own trucks of their own or ya know, they know something about trucks."
And the person or people who took the truck were bold, taking the truck as it sat parked just a few thousand feet away from a police precinct.
"The police station is right down the street, so these people are bold," Lewis said. "Bold criminals is what they are; I don't want to be living next door to bold criminals, and I'm sure you don't."
For now, Lewis is pounding the pavement, warning other truck owners and hanging up flyers offering a $500 hundred reward for the truck's return.
"This truck is too large, we're talking about a 20-thousand pound vehicle," said Lewis. "It's somewhere; someone's seen it. I want my truck back."
