RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia Commonwealth University is phasing out its undergraduate program that prepares teachers for health and physical education instruction.
The decision announced Tuesday was based on low enrollment over the past decade and an absence of permanent faculty.
VCU said there are 54 undergraduate students in the general health and physical education concentrations. The phasing out will begin this fall.
Students already enrolled in the program and meeting academic expectations will be able to complete their programs and receive degrees.
VCU said the decision to phase out the program was a difficult one and followed a full review.
