CHESTERFIELD, Va. (AP) - A Chesterfield judge has sentenced a teenage gang member to 20 years in prison for raping a girl.
Chesterfield Circuit Court Judge Steven McCallum sentenced 18-year-old Jose Mancia-Martinez on Tuesday to 40 years, with 20 suspended. McCallum also heard evidence that Mancia-Martinez committed another gang-related assault while in juvenile detention.
Mancia-Martinez is an admitted MS-13 gang member from El Salvador.
Sources say testimony revealed that Mancia-Martinez and 17-year-old Jario Jose Hernandez offered to give the girl a ride home. Instead, they took her to Mancia-Martinez' apartment, where Hernandez held a machete over the girl while his friend raped her and then he assaulted her.
Hernandez pleaded guilty in March and was sentenced in June to spend the next 3 ½ years in a state juvenile correctional facility.
