RICHMOND, VA - The Catholic Diocese of Richmond will open a magnet school next school year in the former Benedictine College Preparatory on Sheppard Street in Richmond.
The new school will be called Saint Katharine Drexel Preparatory and will serve sixth through eighth grades, focusing on science, technology, religion, engineering, arts and math.
"Our desire is to create a uniquely excellent educational opportunity for middle school children in the greater Richmond community in a building that has been serving the youth of Richmond for 100 years," said Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo in a statement.
Officials for the new school will spend this year developing the curriculum and getting the building ready for students. The school's first class is expected to start next fall.
